God's Salvation

GOD’S SALVATION FROM THE BIBLE
--All of us are not perfect. We cannot keep God’s law. All of us have sinned by breaking God’s law.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
“For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.” (Ecclesiastes 7:20)
“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”
(1 John 3:4)

--We are under the judgment of God; that judgment includes the eternal lake of fire. “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a)
“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. “(Revelation 20:12-15)
“And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.” (Isaiah 66:24)
“And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”
(Daniel 12:2)

--Only Jesus Christ can give life that delivers one from eternal death.“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” (John 3:36) “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 John 5:12)

--The faith of Christ saves a person from eternal death and the judgment of God.“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified…I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:16, 20)

--It is the work of God that one believes unto salvation.“Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” (John 6:29)

--God sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ…“In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.”
(1 John 4:9)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
(John 3:16 – Jay Green translation)

--Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone.“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.” (Hebrews 9:14,15)

--There is no other way…“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

--Only Christ can save a sinner; the sinner is not able to save himself.“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25)
“No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:44)
“Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?” (Proverbs 20:9)
“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” (Romans 8:7)
“Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone practicing sin is a slave of sin. But the slave does not remain in the house for ever; the Son remains forever. Then if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.” (John 8:34-36 – Jay Green translation)
“Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)” (Ephesians 2:5)

--Our works are no good in the sight of God. They are tainted with sin.“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.” (Isaiah 64:6,7)
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”
(James 2:10)
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph. 2:8,9)

--If we cannot do good works to make ourselves right before God, then how can we become right before God and be forgiven of our sins?
“…but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.” (Isaiah 66:2b)
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” (Psalm 51:17)
“Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” (James 4:6b)
“And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” (Luke 18:18-27)

--If we think that God has saved us, we are to examine ourselves if we be in the faith.“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” (2 Corinthians 13:5)
--We are commanded…
“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” (Isaiah 55:6,7)
“…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” (Acts 16:31)

--Yet we will never do these things of ourselves.“What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. (Romans 3:9-20)

--We need a new heart.“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jer. 17:9)
“And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wick-edness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blas-phemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” (Mk 7:20-23)
“The LORD [is] nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
(Psalm 34:18)
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.” (Ezek. 36:26,27)
“But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.”
(Luke 8:15)
“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:10)

--Read the Bible...“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:15,16)
“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” (Psalm 119:130)
“It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.”
(Lamentations 3:26)
“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple…The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.” (Psalm 19:7,9)
