WHAT ABOUT GOD’S ELECTION?
The following are some verses from the Bible that describe the election by God using the words choose, chosen, elect and election:
Psalm 65:4 Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.Isaiah 65:9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there
Romans 9:11 “(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)”.”
1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
--Who are these elect, chosen ones that are spoken of in the Bible?
They are a people who will not face the judgment of God on the last day.- Mark 13:27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaveMatthew 25:31-33,41 When the Son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shep-herd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into ever -lasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:Is not the choosing of God for those elect people to salvation based upon their good works?Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Psalm 14:2,3 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Isaiah 64:6,7 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities like the wind have taken us away. And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.--Do we not have the free will to choose the salvation of God?
John 8:34,36 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin…If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.It seems that it is unfair that God would choose to save some and not others.We must see that none of us deserve salvation. Though there is this terrible reality of God’s judg-ment, there is hope that I might find this salvation.Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually.Jeremiah 17:9 The heart [is] deceitful above all [things], and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Romans 3:10-11 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that under-standeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Lamentations 3:26 [It is] good that [a man] should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Isaiah 55:6,7 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
--Do we have to understand everything about the teaching of God’s election to become saved?
Job 28:12,13 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
Mark 10:15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
Romans 11:33-36 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how un-searchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompen-sed unto him again? For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.1 Corinthians 1:27,28 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.--What is the purpose of learning about God’s election of salvation?a. It reinforces that God is in control of all things and challenges us to see if we really trust God for salvation even if we cannot understand everything about it (as a child before a father). -Job 13:15, Isaiah 55:11 > Romans 10:17, John chapter 17, 2 Corinthians 13:5, Ephesians 1:9, 1Timothy 3:9,16
b It destroys the notion that any kind of action that we do will obtain and guarantee salvation. -Ephesians 2:8,9, Romans 11:5,6, Galatians 2:16 c.
C It gives assurance of the mercy and forgiveness of sins to sinners who see their own spiritual poverty, filthiness and need of the true salvation revealed in the Bible – Isaiah 55:6,7, 66:2, Matthew 11:28,29, John 5:24, Romans 8:1, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 1 John 1:9
d. It gives us assurance that we cannot prevent someone from being saved by our own sins and mistakes – Praise God!!! – John 6:37, 10:28,29, Romans 8:35-39
e. It gives all praise and glory to God alone! Jeremiah 9:23,24, 1 Corinthians 1:27-31
God’s Election is God’s Business. This is in the Bible for you to know that the only way of salvation is by God’s action, the work of Christ, not our own. If we are trusting in something we have done, including our own faith, this will never bring us salvation. Our pride is against God’s authority.
Proverbs 3:34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.John 1:12,13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of thewill of man, but of God.
John 3:27 John answered… A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
